Growing up in rural Ireland, Purple Heather Floral Design Owner, Laura Cantwell, was always surrounded by flowers. The small farm where she grew up and the country lanes of her childhood were lined with hedgerows full of fragrant lady slippers, primroses, snowdrops and daffodils.  Wildflowers grew in abundance and the bogs she frequented to cut and stack the turf were covered in a sea of wild purple heather.  Years later, living in Brooklyn, New York, she visited the corner bodegas and local florists so often that friends would ask her to pick out flowers and make arrangements for them.

A move from Brooklyn to Northern Westchester County sparked Laura's desire to take her love of floral artistry and turn it into something larger.  Armed with the inspiration of a much-admired floral designer and friend, along with the encouragement of many local female entrepreneurs, Purple Heather Floral Design began in 2017.

Having lived in Ireland, San Francisco, and New York, Laura creates designs that have a sophisticated elegance influenced by these locales.  She continues to take inspiration from her surroundings, experiences and travels and works closely with her wholesaler to provide top quality, premium stems to her clients.

Laura's motto in life is "quality not quantity" and this belief, combined with her lifelong love of flowers, has contributed to her passion for creating interesting, unique and personalized designs.  Each one is lovingly created with the recipient and/or event in mind because just as no two flowers are ever exactly the same, no two floral arrangements are ever exactly the same.
